Bishop Hartley High School had a 10 year old system in place for their jumbo-tron scoreboard. We were commissioned to upgrade that bloated application that was too overblown and filled with unstructured and complicated user interface.
Starting with defining a scope, developing multiple wireframes, and creating prototypes fast allowed us to see what worked and what didn't work almost immediately.
We ended up using Omnivex Moxie Studio to design and program this in. Usually Omnivex Moxie is a digital signage software that is very limited in it's design capabilities, but I don't actually consider this to be digital signage. This is a full blown application that is programmed using a poor man's interface driven language.
It allows to select multiple sports, keep stats and scores for all of the sports, score inside and outside sports simultaneously, introduce, and highlight players during the game, play music, advertisements, and between play animations all within a system that is mean to be a glorified slide show.
This is a 200+ hour project and is still on going. We provided a full backend user guide and implemented a fully thought out CMS custom made for these guys so it will not become a super over-bloated monster and can keep its structure and will work with just updating a couple cells.
The craziest thing about this project is that is was to be completely functional within a month. It is a little bare bones, and I would have loved to put more time into testing the experience, but constraints lead me to this. If anything I can say I am resourceful.
